But Waiver thinks it’s just fine when Republicans cheat and blatantly rig the system, because something something some demonrat once accidentally voted while black in the state of Texas that one time 8 years ago.

WW, I know you’re lurking here like you always do around election time. Is your happiness at taking back the House enough to overtake the depression from probably losing a seat in the senate? What’s your take on DeSanctimonious? Is your party gonna eat itself? I sure hope so!

    • It's really sad how many non-democratic systems are in place in the US. The Electoral College nonsense is one of the biggest problems. And the districting process is mostly garbage too for the same reason. If it's not 1-person, 1-vote, same weight then it's not democratic.

In all seriousness, short is a problem. Since television no candidate less than 5’10 has won.
Stuff like height might have mattered in the past, no more. Especially for Republicans, it's how Trumpian they can be now, there are no longer any personality quirks or idiosyncrasies or hidden or not so hidden issues in your past that disqualify you any more from elected office. Trump warned us years ago he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any support. Same holds true today. If Herschel Walker can be elected in Georgia after the runoff, after his abortion payoffs and CTE induced statements, over a Reverand, to pair along with MTG and her idiocracy, it's no holds barred. Jeffrey Dahmer, if he was alive and free, could run for office in Wisconsin and win as long as he had an R next to his name.

The senate is inherently non-democratic in that 50 fucking backward ass ranchers in Wyoming have as much power to elect as entire cities in more populated states.

Now I always thought it was smart to have the two chambers of congress set up differently as a way to check each others power, but if you combine the electoral rules for the senate with the way states have gerrymandered their HOR districts we’ve got a perfect storm of Christo-fascistic minoritarian rule.

And it’s just a matter of time. Biden or a Dem might win in 2024, but go look at the senate races. Of the 33 Senate seats up for election next term, 23 are held by Democrats and at least 8 of those incumbents are considering retirement. It’s gonna be a bloodbath.

          • We aren't a democracy, the moment we got together and agreed to copy and paste the Magna Carta into our constitution we became a Republic. Every individual has unalienable rights regardless of the opinion of the majority and that includes representation. In that respect I am fine with the Ranchers in Wyoming having an equal say in one sub-branch of our government. I get the argument that it isn't an equitable say, but it is in line with what our founders wanted. It's all of the other problems that have come along over the centuries that have soured me on that ideology and made the system untenable.

Gerrymandering is definitely one of them. How about the electoral college creating the conditions for swing states where a narrow group of people get all of the attention in a national election? Instead of everyone getting a voice including small states, which is supposed to be the selling point for the EC, it's alienating 90% of the country. The 40 million people in California don't matter nor do the 500k in Wyoming.

I sure as hell am. Of him and his felchers. His and his followers’ disregard for the constitution is matched only by their blatant dismissal of science.

              • I hope he goes third party and burns the GOP to the ground in the process.
I’m a senior. As are Donnie, Puckhead, and JB.

                    • Oh and someone please check Elon Musk and my numbers. The claims of 36000 kg “payload” with 800 km range 29 billion joules needed and 3.6 billion joules of battery capacity is off.

unless 20000 kg of the “payload” is batteries.

                      • So it’s all about the fig newtons. If the electric semis math is to work out, the force required to move the truck ( friction and air resistance) has to be less than 4000newtons. My number of 36000 newtons may be a bit on the high side.

Still the weight of the empty truck was not given. I’m guessing the battery system weighs something north of 15000 kilograms which is a fucking bomb.

                        • Commercial trucks, full truckload (minus actual truck weight) is roughly 44,000 lbs or approx 20,000kg. So the actual payload carried is just 5000 more than battery weight? Is this musk pie in his sky or what?

                          • Are you including the weight of the trailer when making your calculations? From the estimates I've seen floated the weight of the tractor is 27k pounds, slightly heavier than the heaviest diesels on the road today.

                            • Warnock wins. Like Romney said, a Trump endorsement is the kiss of death to your campaign if you're a Republican. Gotta hope he sputters his way to a nomination at this point and then trust in the sane part of America to come out to vote. I actually want that to happen as it would send a clear message on where extremist populism gets you in a general election. I'd be busy trying to taint every Republican candidate as a Trump sycophant at this point, people aren't going to retread on that experiment.

May not win in rural west Virginia but it should give Democrats a super majority for four years, there will many parts of the nation voting blue for the first time since Carter.

                              • For the sake of the country as well as our collective sanity, I’d prefer he be indicted for the documents fiasco. That plus the trump org judgements should squash a potential R nomination. And if he is indicted and found guilty, all the better.

I do think Smith is going to go after Eastman, Powell, Giuliani et al. for the fake electors crap as well as the planning of 1/6. And the mindless “investigations” by Jordan and the merry band of miscreants for two years will not sit well with the voting public in 2024. Pure political lunacy and suicide.
