Like talking to a brick wall.

I'm sure the 220+ members of the House, including Jamie Raskin who is a constitutional law expert and founder of the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project, who felt the need to vote for the Electoral Count Act fix bill are just ill informed and they should've just phoned up Constitutional law expert RSchmitz to set them straight.
I challenge you to find a single one of them who said the bill was aimed at stopping state legislature from overturning national elections. It's not in the bill, at all, because the state legislature already has zero authority to overturn election results.

I'm a brick wall, I may need you to actually cite facts or a quote and not just smart ass conjecture.

Election Day is the deadline for the states to pick and implement their chosen method for appointing presidential electors. After that, state legislatures have no further say in the matter. The state law election process is carried out and the results are certified by the state’s executive branch officials, with any disputes litigated through the courts.

          • The Big Guava dodges another huge bullet. Just hope that the old and new residents realize how fortunate they are/have been, and realize that the next big one that plows up the Gulf could be the one that takes all the chips off the table.

            • That sudden turn east also significantly sped Ian up and reduced it's time over land by about 6 hours, inland damage could have been much worse.

Still, 15 reported deaths so far

              • We're still not out of hurricane season yet, and this being the the time where storms particularly tend to end up in the gulf, stay buckled in.

                • Here in NW Sarasota there was a ton of tree/plant debris and power was restored this afternoon. No structural damage or water intrusion. We got so unbelievably lucky here again. If the original track which put it heading basically north and along the coast, slowly through to Tampa, this area would have been confetti. That's what it was like after '92 Andrew north of Homestead. That's a trauma I've never shaken.

                  • We live in Tamaron and got our power back Friday evening. 3 trees down on our lot - 2 were from next door. But we had pool cages come down on either side of us.

Well Pete I'll concede, I have no idea why he would say that to a mayor while touring a disaster area or how it is relevant to me. Years of being a Biden fanboy must have helped you develop a talent for deciphering ambiguous bullshit like this. What should I do to get out of trouble?

                        • I spoke to a fishing buddy last night that lives in FM, close to the San Carlos bridge. Fellow guides tell him that the number of fatalities will be close to 1000 or more. The only reason we haven't heard about a spike in deaths is because the medical examiners offices are overwhelmed. Given the devastation we see, the somewhat late evacuation order, and general complacency regarding hurricane effects, I'm not doubting it.

DonnieD said he had a friend who died in the hurricane and the state evidently reclassified the death as non-hurricane related, a la the way they were reclassifying COVID deaths.
