  • The phosphate mining is terrible. It ruins the land, leaving it a toxic moonscape. Then when the location isn't profitable the companies move their money out, declare bankruptcy, and then we get to pay for the eventual clean-up and suffer the health risks.

We need phosphate or the world starves, but yeah it's unbelievable that this disaster was just allowed to whimsically happen. Crazy to think there are people who want less regulation

      • I don't get how the solution to the waste water problem was just to stick it in a huge pool and then just hope nothing happens to it.

        • Lol, that’s what humans do with ALL non-degradable waste. Stick it somewhere and pretend it doesn’t exist.

It takes $$ and vision to reclaim phosphate mines. That said, Streamsong is a nice example of what can be done with exhausted phosphate mines. It’s right there with Brandon Dunes (OR) as a distinct and premier set of golf courses.

            • Schumer has announced the Senate parliamentarian has ruled the Democrats get one more budget reconciliation bills this year. So, barring something wild, Biden's getting his infrastructure bill.

I would take this to mean that the Democrats will go for the public option and several fixes to the ACA next year.

                  • I wonder if HR1 can somehow be intertwined with the infrastructure bill so they can get that through without McConnell filibustering it until he dies

                    • Reconciliation is a budget process. So it can apply to stimulus, infrastructure, health care spending, etc., but it can't apply to civil or voting rights legislation.

The right wing PACs are already running cable ads against S1 here in my state (HR1) so it seems to me filibuster reform is something both parties are expecting.

                      • When Joel Greenberg made his Venmo payments to three young women, he described the money as being for “Tuition,” “School,” and “School.”

Gaetz is fucked and from everything starting to leak out, along with Greenberg's lawyer signaling he's going to turn state's witness, he might drag a good chunk of the Florida GOP power brokers down with him.

Jared is way too old for Gaetz.
