On Sunday, the Associated Press reported worker shortages have prompted some Alabama farmers who grow labor-intensive produce to plant less, rather than have crops rot in the fields again this year. Last fall Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley signed a…
I posted some numbers earlier, the jobs available in the agricultural industry have been decimated by machinery and robotics. In the early 1900s it used to take one person to feed four people, now one person is enough to feed hundreds. There used to be 10 million people employed in agriculture, now that is 3 million and shrinking. In the near future truck and taxi cab drivers will be replaced by robots, do you really think harvesting isn’t just as close? Google “robot pickers”

Unskilled labor is being automated out

    • Anyone in here ever pick strawberries for a job? I have, if there are robots picking strawberries there will be robots picking every other crop. Pretty crazy but its happening.

      • We took the girls to Plant City to pick berries when they were in elementary grades, We all agreed it was fun, but it was also a “once in a lifetime” experience.

          • We used to do that 2-3 times a year when I was elementary aged. If you like strawberries, it can be a fun experience to pick them and then go home and make something with them that you like.

Not sure if you all remember a long while back when robins invaded central Florida. Robins are a protected species but they would eat the strawberries, so the farmers paid us kids to use noise makers and try and scare them away, that was a ton of fun. The robins eventually caught on that we wouldn't do shit and at their fill anyways.

              • Joe Manchin is a disingenuous piece of hillbilly shit. Bi partisan? Haven’t we been down this one way street for many, many years? Fuck him and his fellow moron Sinema.

That's less than the cost of gasoline folks

No doubt. I just got another Escape 4WD for the Sierra but my next veh will be a Tesla with Blizzak snow tires (if we’re still in Reno).

I mean, the only people with access to it now are a limited # of beta testers, and it's still cheaper and faster than any other satellite internet service provider. If your expectation is that they compete with ground based services, you may be waiting a while, Starlink is 1/7th of the way complete and they aren't expected to go public until at least next year.

                            • The Model 3 was supposed to be a $30K car originally, and mine was over $40K.

I'd guess a $25K Tesla is going to have to be a very short-range EV a la a Nissan Leaf.
