The sport that, up until recent years played its greatest championship at a club that excluded women and minorities from being members tilts conservative/Republican?
Yup. WW was one of favs, and my wife got me an annual pass. Played it for $26 in a June or July. Only played Jovita with a member, but I'd take WW over Lk Jovita. Greneleaf was $25 during the summer. Lots of quality golf on the west coast of Florida, but you might have to travel a bit. (I did post a 68 at the Babe though!! What a gem for a city course)
I have a gift card to Streamsong that I have been sitting on for a couple of years. Built in the Mosaic digs in the Sebring area much like Black Diamond. The card is for $100 which won’t cover the mandatory caddie fees. Add in the round of golf and the night stay at the property and you’re looking at 800 out of pocket. Nah.

Qu'elle surprise!
No surprise really. I didn’t agree with Augusta’s policy after the time I was able to understand what it really meant for women. Hell, even Charlie Sifford was blocked from playing there until he won a tournament. And Nicklaus’ golf course development company hasn’t built a public course, playable by us munis, that I’m aware of. Pro golf and country club golf has always been the province of rich guys, some of them real pricks and some not.
In my admiration for the skill It takes to play Tour level golf, I have looked past a lot of the inequities. However, The First Tee and the $$$ (its pretty substantial) raised for charity at every Tour stop are pluses in the the PR of the PGA. I just wish Jack had kept his mouth shut!!! (Fred Funk is the only other PGA guy I know is a Trumper, so F him too)

Golf is an expensive game to play and master. Of course it’s going to be dominated by rich, white guys supporting republicans.
Stereotype. I have been playing since I was 9. First lesson when I was 57. Never been a member a a CC. Played early in life with a 40 year old 2 wood, and a 3,5, and 7 iron bought at Zayre’s for $5 each. That was it muni and semi private courses.
More players like Puckhead and me than CC members you reference.
And are you a tour pro? I’m not talking about folks being able to play public courses with cheap clubs. I’m talking about the lessons, amount of golf that you have to pay and play necessary to get on the PGA tour.
By the way “under $50 a round” is way out of the reach of a poor kid.

Oh yeah, you are absolutely correct. 95% of the guys on the Tour come from well endowed families, have access to good instruction, and are coddled all along the way with golf scholarships and further instruction that gets them ready for a SHOT at the tour. (Scratch golfers are a dime a dozen, particularly in FL)
What Jon said is also correct: more golf is played by guys like us than "country club" players. And I suspect that it's the guys like us that are not happy (readissed) at Nicklaus' comments. And in a way, since we are "golfers" it reflects very poorly on the sport in general. In spite of all that we've said above, I love the sport; and so do the other Publinx golfers.
I'd note that the Sarasota/Manatee First Tee program is one of 1200 across the country, that represent a diversity of kids that matches the population (e.g. not all Caucasian) https://firsttee.org/first-tee-numbers/ ) And it, along with First Tee Hillsborough, does a nice job introducing kids to the game--the kids that I've played with on public courses at less than $25.00 a round.

Also, Texas Republicans drew the most partisan hack of a federal judge in their quest to throw out 100K votes in Houston that were dropped off at the county's curbside drop box. If upheld (and it likely will be) Democrats just lost about 40K votes worth of margin, minimum.
