And why allow that mother-to-be to terminate that pregnancy for a cheaper price than half a years worth of diapers? Allowing that infringes MY rights as an Evangelical Christian(TM) and it will also rob me the opportunity to call her a welfare queen at a later date.

That ideological argument isn't even necessary. The genesis of an unwanted pregnancy aside, if you heavily invest in kids during their infant/toddler years, you'll end up saving a ton of money indirectly with fewer crimes and incarcerations and collect more taxes from additional jobs and with more productive members of society. I wonder what the actual number estimates look like.

Extended paid leave for both parents after the birth of a child would also do an immense amount of good. Perhaps with some restrictions to stop abuse.

    • Trump cancels the in person Jacksonville convention. They are going back to North Carolina.

Haaaaaa. Tail between legs back to a D governor. Ron Disasterous must’ve not sufficiently sublimated himself to the grabber. Trump and the RNC: amateur hour.

I don't even understand the decision to go back to North Carolina if the thing is going to be 95% virtual. That being the case, COVID or no COVID there wouldn't be an issue with Trump giving his acceptance speech in an empty hall in Jacksonville the way Biden (reportedly) will in Milwaukee.

          • Wow, even Trump can see DeSantis is burying this state in shit. Our school district just pushed re-opening back to the last possible date. We are a ticking bio bomb

            • A lot of noisiness in the polling the last day or two thanks in large part to some astroturfing of dubious Republican pollsters' "work", but Fox News dropped a big turd in Trump's punch bowl tonight:

              #NEW @FoxNews
              Polls:

              #Michigan:
              Biden 49% (+9)
              Trump 40%
              ___
              #Pennsylvania:
              Biden 50% (+11)
              Trump 39%
              ___
              #Minnesota:
              Biden 51% (+13)
              Trump 38%

Pennsylvania has moved 3% towards Biden in the last couple of months in Fox's poll and Michigan's moved 1% toward Biden. There's been very few polls of Minnesota, but Lord does Trump's ad spending in the state look like he's been lighting money on fire for no reason there.

One of the arguments for Biden's candidacy was that he's a cultural fit for the Rust Belt that nullified Trump's strength there. Thus far that appears to have been true.

With the exception of the 30% or so of the electorate that enjoy being in a perpetual state of agitation and anger, the rest of us (including moderate R's in the suburbs) are just simply TIRED of his act- and cringe at the prospects of another 4 years of increasingly bizarre behavior. This exhaustion tilts the election squarely toward uncle Joe.

I’m convinced. He, Steve King, and Louis Gomert are “all there”.

                      • 1,150 COVID deaths today in the US.

Daily and weekly updated statistics tracking the number of COVID-19 cases, recovered, and deaths. Historical data with cumulative charts, graphs, and updates.

                        Another tough day for Texas.

The good news is the Rt in Texas and Florida have fallen below 1.0. Arizona also. So, if they can ride out the next three or four weeks they should get over the worst of it, presumably.

Up-to-date values for Rt — the number to watch to measure COVID spread.

And then we'll see if this first wave moves somewhere else, or if it subsides until the second wave comes in Fall.

                        • Unfortunately it will continue to migrate. We have no federal response, no federal leadership, too many governors who want to please the President and an uncooperative public - though I blame much of the latter on the lack of federal leadership.

As soon as the numbers start to drop, the governors will reopen and we will go through this all again. So we will continue to play Coronavirus whack a mole.

The best hope is that on January 21 we are in the process of starting a national immunization program. The anti vaccine folks will scream like crazy, but as long as airlines, cruise ships, large employers, foreign travel, colleges and schools require vaccinations, we will be ok.

My knee jerk was that it'll go to Atlanta next, and it may yet, but the Rt numbers point to it going back to places like Denver and Chicago where it's already been as well as some of the rural states and maybe some mid-sized cities like St. Louis.

The White House is saying that she died of old age, but the death certificate says COVID-19. Stephen Miller, the good nazi, is willing to throw his own grandmother overboard for Donald Trump.
