I know I'm starting this waaaay too early, but was trying to figure this out.

We get Vancouver's first round this year if they make the playoffs, or next year if they do not? So lottery protected this year, no protection next year???

So, if that's the case, we want them to miss the playoffs so we have a chance at a lottery pick next year?

Yeah, you want the weird scenario where we end up with a #1 overall pick because a GM agreed to an open-ended pick stipulation that no GM should ever agree to because weird scenarios like that do happen and said GM ends up the punch line of sports trivia jokes forever.

I don't know how firm their position really is. They're really on the bubble along with four other teams in the Pacific Division.

RLR arrived today. The now annual dance of trying to decide if this is the year they'll go back to drafting the BPA with the most upside or if they're sticking with system/role players.

We have four picks from the early 60's-94 so there shouldn't be any reason the team doesn't take a shot or two on a high upside player.

One name in particular that I really like is Yevgeni Oksentyuk. I feel like he's going to be overlooked because of his size, but he has decent (but not exceptional) speed, excellent compete level and a high hockey IQ. Sounds kind of familiar doesn't it.

Rounds 2 -7 will occur at 11:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 7

Free agency will begin at noon ET on Friday, Oct. 9

In a deep draft, and with our scouting dept., I like the thought of drafting five of the top 123 players.

Gonna really need BP to come through with the intel.

I would expect some attempt to package those thirds and/or fourths, personally. I doubt they take five players with those picks. They'll have their list. Guys will fall out of the first and/or second round that are on their list. And then there'll be the push from the scouts to have JBB acquire to go up and get those guys.

Don't forget in all likelihood we have more top 3 rounds picks coming with trades coming up as well. Lends more credence to the thought of moving up.
