  • 2018 Draft

What is our organizational weakness right now? Draft is supposedly deep, and early reports show that it's deepest on D and especially RHD.

I'm sure someone much more knowledgeable than me will say for sure, but my first thought is some sort of playmamimg forward. Just feels like all out forwards are the 2-way mold.

It's pretty tough to know who will still be around at pick 31

Goaltender should be pretty high on the list of depth needs. Other than that, I see no reason to deviate from the strategy of recent years. 2-way forwards and big mobile defensemen are valuable and relatively safe.

Agreed. Need a new legit goalie prospect but otherwise keep going with the philosophy that works.

Definitely need a goaltender. Could use another RHD. Could use a playmaking C.

Any ideas on who we should target in the 2nd round?

BPA with strong leanings toward an international or college goalie. Would be surprised if we don't try for some additional picks however.

I nailed the Cal Foote pick last year, so...

If he is on the board, I would look at Alexander Khovanov from Moncton. Missed a good chunk of his first season in North America with an illness, but has 1st round talent. He's a strong playmaking center with good upside. Has a bit of an edge to his game as well.

Lightning Power Play will have live coverage of both days of the draft with Erik Erlendsson and J.P. Peterson tonight and EE and Matt Sammon tomorrow.

In case you tire of Canadian team coverage.

Zeyk - Are we going to have Discord available tonight for chat?

Sure thing. It's up and available. I can add a channel for the Draft if you'd like.

First trade of the day -- Colorado gets Brooks Orpik and Philipp Grubauer from Washington in exchange for their 2nd round pick (#47) in the draft.

                              Salary dump for the Caps.

LeBrun is saying that Orpik won't be long in Colorado, as they intend to trade him or buy him out.
