Thoughts

Footed is seems like a safe solid pick to be a long time nhler. One of the two Russians may have an impact at the NHL level (not making bets on which ones though). The high school kids all seem to be reaches, but all have a long development path under Lightning control. The d man seems to possess good size and intrigues me the most.

Honestly feel like you got two fairly safe picks (Foote and Lipanov) and four guys they took a flyer on.

Just reading between the lines of what was said about Volkov, our scouting staff put a TON of weight on 6 games in the Subway Super Series. Maybe they're right, but it's an awful small sample set and awful small sample sets can be misleading (see: Helenius, Riku).

Camp

Well we will get a look at Volkov at the camp on Tuesday, so maybe that will help. A small sample set also bothers me, not really enough to get a good idea of the kids talent. But if he does go to the Crunch we will have more to judge him on.

If he's your guy, and you're in love with him, go get your guy. Espo tells the story that the scouts told him they thought Brad Richards would slip down to the 4th round and he put his foot down and took him in the 3rd. If you believe in the player, you don't monkey around about it. So, I don't have an issue with reaching by a round once you get to day two. What I have an issue with is that I think they've fallen in love with this player based on a very small number of viewings, which is inherently risky.
