  • Trade Deadline 2023 (Friday, March 3, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. EST)

We are a little less than 7 weeks out from the deadline, but we should start hearing things pick up a bit over the next few weeks.

Elliotte Friedman reported tonight on HNIC that the bolts have a strong interest in bringing back Luke Schenn, and he said that he thinks the bolts will be "strong contenders" for him. No mention of any type of cost, but I would guess that there could be something around a Foote for Schenn deal.

    Make it so.
I’m a senior. As are Donnie, Puckhead, and JB.

    Who knew?

        Was just tweeting about this.

Would not be surprised at all to see TB bring Schenn back for Foote, straight up, and then give Schenn a one year extension. Foote's a RFA, due a raise even if just his qualifying offer, and clearly isn't trusted by this coaching staff to stay in the lineup. Vancouver has said they want young players so they can re-tool. Foote may yet elevate his game, just turned 24. TB gets the veteran back they like for another playoff run.

        Then next year you run:
        Hedman-Perbix
        Sergachev-Cernak
        Cole or FA-Schenn
        Bogosian and Fleury scratched

Would be okay with having Schenn for playoffs but don’t see him replacing Bogosian and would like to see Raddysh on roster next year and resign Cole.

So Adam Foote is likely going to join Tocchet's coaching staff in Vancouver when they fire Boudreeau.

            Hmm.......

Watched Foote and Fleury these last two games and boy do we miss Perbix. Fleury is a fringe NHLer like Myers was. You can see why he’s still in the league, because he’s still young, big and skates well. But that’s it. Guy’s got nothing going for him. Foote is what he is … not a good enough skater to be anything more than a third pair/bench guy. If we could get Schenn for Foote straight up, I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Id like to see Balcers play more than 4 shifts before we decide what to do with our forwards.

With our current roster, I have us at $1,482,467 in cap space for the trade deadline.

Now that number does not include Fleury or Balcers who I think are unlikely to be on the NHL roster post deadline. The bolts have a decision to make between the two in the next couple days since Balcers needs activated from his conditioning stint and we do not have the room (unless Maroon's injury is serious and he has to go on LTIR).

I keep wondering about Colton. The bolts are going to have a pretty limited amount of cap space this offseason and I have trouble seeing how they would fit him in since I would put his value at $3+ million. I'm not saying they move him, but I could see it being on the table if they go for a bigger target.

Colton, Foote, our 3rd rounder in 23 and our 2nd rounder in 24 for Bo Horvat. Who says no? (actually we can’t afford to keep him so forget about it). I wonder who we could even target.

I think Vancouver says no easily. But maybe we can be used to bid up and hurt a rival who does trade for him. Probably still just interested in Schenn.

While a third pair defenseman would be nice, they've got to do something about the bottom six scoring. Those are the guys who win you games in the playoffs when the top players cancel each other out. Namestnikov simply hasn't worked from a production standpoint and both he and Maroon are likely to finish with under 20 points on the year. Bellemare and Perry look like father time has arrived.

Not sure the cost (and he'd have to be laundered through another team) but Toews would be a fantastic get. Can juggle he and Cirelli around. Toews is actually scoring at a good clip this year given Chicago's ramshackle roster and has always been a playoff performer. Provided it doesn't cost a roster player you could run:

                      Hagel-Point-Kucherov
                      Killorn-Cirelli-Stamkos
                      Paul-Toews-Colton
                      Namestnikov-Bellemare-Perry
                      Maroon

Crazy as it is to say, you could switch Namestnikov and Maroon in and out as the games dictate. Maroon does play that heavy, grinding playoff type game. Real lack of foot speed is a big issue for the fourth line though.

"Like the Nick Paul deal" should be raising alarm bells for Colton. Big time playoff performer in his young career, but arbitration eligible this upcoming offseason if he doesn't sign an extension beforehand. Could basically be considered a pending UFA as a down-to-the-penny team like TB wouldn't risk the arbitration award.

Colton passes the eye test but I bet fancy stats, offensive zone possession in particular, are a reason the staff hasn’t given him more of an extended look on a scoring line.

If Colton is this years Joseph who is this years Paul? Colton I think I would rather just hold on to and trade in the offseason
