Putting Stamkos on the top line addresses the glut of centers but Point and Kuch are going to miss Palat's blue collar work. I'm sure it's easier for Stammer to move away from center again to play with those two. When I see those three names together though, it makes me think we're on the power play.
I'm really curious to see if Paul can perform as a scoring line center, as I think Cirelli has not lived up to the role the last couple years.
I'll assume Colton will be taking the faceoffs on the third line because Namesy's career faceoff numbers aren't good. I was hoping Colton would fill a spot on the scoring line given last year's performance, but maybe he'll chip in another 20 or so from the third.
The school bus line was great last year, but it could use some more speed and pair of young legs. I'm hoping Fortier makes the team and takes a permanent spot on that line, with Perry and Maroon taking turns for the other wing.
Pretty unfair matchup last night with the Canes playing basically their best lineup against most of our scrubs. Koepke looked good. Hagel and Paul also created a lot of chances. ABB almost scored on a wraparound.
Schmidt sent back to Juniors to make tomorrow's home opener for Kitchener. I'm sure getting turned inside out by Aho didn't help his cause. Good to give the 19 year-old some exposure against a full NHL roster.
Really think top 3 lines may fluctuate a lot throughout the season. Stamkos really likes to play center. Top 8 forwards create flexible lineup. Koepke could be another Colton. When Cirelli gets back checking line will be Killorn-Cirelli-Hagel. Doubt any changes on 4th line until injuries pop up. D should be fine. Ian Cole is an extremely dependable defenseman. Myers is certainly the wild card on D. Should be fun again this season.
D pairings. Hedman-Foote
Sergachev-Cernak
Cole-Myers
Fleury-Perbix
If I'm an opposing forward, I wouldn't look forward to trying to control loose pucks below the goal line if Cole and Myers are on the ice. Better have heads on a swivel.
